Jobber vs Housecall Pro: which fits a 5-truck crew?

Jobber vs Housecall Pro compared for home service businesses: 2026 pricing by crew size, features per plan, AI call answering and which one to pick.

Updated October 22, 2026 · 10 min read

Quick verdict

For a crew of about five, the two cost almost the same. Pick Jobber if you want to start small and grow one user at a time, or if quoting and client follow-ups drive your sales. Pick Housecall Pro if you want a price book, job costing and review management from the first plan, or you run 6–8 people and want them all on one flat price.

J

Choose Jobber if…

  • You're solo or a very small team and want the cheapest way in ($49/mo, 1 user).
  • You want to add users one by one ($29/mo each) instead of jumping a tier.
  • Automated quote and invoice follow-ups matter more to you than a price book.
  • You want an AI receptionist from the same vendor (add-on, or included in Plus).
HP

Choose Housecall Pro if…

  • You sell from a price book and want job costing and review management on the first plan.
  • You have 6–8 office and field users: Max covers 8 users at one price.
  • You want employee GPS tracking and commissions (Essentials and up).
  • You need open API access or a dedicated onboarding specialist (Max).

Jobber and Housecall Pro are the two field service apps most small home service businesses shortlist. Both handle the whole job: booking, scheduling, quotes, invoices and payments. Both offer a 14-day free trial without a credit card. The real differences are in how the price grows with your team and which features come on the first plan.

Pricing checked on October 22, 2026 on both vendors’ pricing pages. Prices change often — check the vendor’s page before you buy. We haven’t run our hands-on test of either app yet, so this comparison has no scores.

Pricing: what you’ll actually pay

Jobber

Jobber has four plans — Core, Connect, Grow and Plus — and each one comes in team sizes. Paid monthly with no commitment:

  • Core: $49/mo for 1 user.
  • Connect: $139/mo for 1 user, $199/mo for 5, $299/mo for 10.
  • Grow: $199/mo for 1 user, $299/mo for 5, $399/mo for 10.
  • Plus: starts at 5 users for $499/mo.

Paying annually is cheaper, and Jobber shows a lower intro price for the first 12 months. Extra users cost $29/mo each on every plan.

Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro has three plans:

  • Basic: $79/mo month-to-month ($59/mo billed annually), 1 user.
  • Essentials: $189/mo month-to-month ($149/mo annually), 5 users.
  • Max: $329/mo month-to-month ($299/mo annually), 8 users. Extra users are listed at $35/mo each.

For a 5-truck crew

With five people in the app, the two are neck and neck: Jobber Connect for 5 users is $199/mo, Housecall Pro Essentials is $189/mo (both on monthly billing). The gap opens up at the edges:

  • Solo or two people: Jobber is cheaper to start with ($49 vs $79), and you can add a user for $29 instead of moving up a plan.
  • Six to eight people: Housecall Pro Max covers 8 users for one price. On Jobber you would add users to a 5-user plan or move to a 10-user tier.

Features that change the decision

Housecall Pro puts more into its first plan. Basic already includes a price book, job costing and review management. On Jobber, job costing arrives with Grow, and review features come with Grow and the Marketing Suite.

Jobber is strong on follow-ups and automation. From Connect, Jobber sends automated quote and invoice follow-ups, client reminders and syncs with QuickBooks Online. Grow adds two-way SMS, optional line-item upsells and custom workflow automations.

Field team tools. Housecall Pro Essentials adds routes, flat-rate pricing, employee GPS tracking and commissions. Max adds route optimization, recurring service plans and a sales proposal tool. Jobber Plus adds crew scheduling, unlimited photo and video storage and custom reports.

AI call answering

Both vendors now sell AI that answers your phone:

  • Jobber AI Receptionist is an add-on listed at $29/mo, and it’s included in the Plus plan.
  • Housecall Pro CSR AI answers calls and chats. It’s sold as an add-on, and its price isn’t listed on the pricing page.

If you already run one of these apps, its own AI receptionist has an obvious advantage: it can book straight into your schedule. You can also use a standalone AI receptionist — see our AI receptionist comparison.

How to decide

  1. Count the people who need a login — owner, office, techs. That number decides the price more than anything else.
  2. List the three things you do every day (quote, schedule, collect payment…) and check which plan includes them on each side.
  3. Use both free trials in the same two weeks. Put real jobs through each one and ask your techs which app they’d rather use.
